Sick and tired of the cold already? Dreading the dark days ahead? If so, the following list will cheer you up! Five wonderful destinations to escape the cold with your family…For those in need of some serious sunshine!
To help save you some time, I have also mentioned a few wonderful accommodations as well; all located at the beach, child friendly and with large family rooms. Happy holidays!
Predictable option? Maybe. But the fact remains that this is a wonderful destination, almost year round. Pleasant temperatures, just a short plane ride from Amsterdam, great food and almost no time difference. If you are keen on long hikes with your family, you should head to smaller La Gomera because of its beautiful nature, the lack of crowds and the cute little beaches that are ideal for young families. Looking for more action and people? Gran Canaria and Tenerife offer you just that: countless restaurants, beautiful hotels, and lots of entertainment, while the beaches are great as well and the water is crystal clear… True surfers go to Fuerteventura– its name contains why… Àndale!
Hotel Jardín Tecina 4* La Gomera
Israel is a supercool destination as it is; however, if you are in search of some sun and beach fun, head to Eilat. Less than five hours by plane and only one hour time difference. Yes! And I have not even mentioned their brilliant food (Yotam Ottolenghi rings a bell?), great beaches and service yet…
Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are definitely worth a visit, but as these cities do get significantly colder and more wet weather during winter, you might want to save that for summer.
The Israëli people adore children and so basically every restaurant is totally kidproof; there are numerous playgrounds and activities as well, so family fun is guaranteed! Fortunately, prices are lower than elsewhere in this country, which makes it all the more attractive.
Eilat is a true gem!
Dubai has it all: beaches, great weather, superb (international) restaurants, childfriendliness ánd just a 3-hour time difference, so no jetlag trouble there! You can go shopping, make cool trips to the desert, make boat trips or just play on the beach for days on end. Looking for more peace and quiet (and lots of nature too)? Neighbor Oman might be the answer to that, offering you some beautiful flora and fauna.
Dubai is truly a great, safe destination for a relaxed family vacation. Do check out the different timetables of the airlines as many of them are not particulary (child)friendly… So you need some flexibility there. On the other hand: chances are you will quickly forget about that once you arrive at the beach the next morning and offer your kid(s) an icecream. Cocktail, anyone?
*Sigh*…Miami. Miami is awesome. Do bring your wallet as it ain’t cheap at the moment, but man is this a great destination. Why? Think early mornings, short stroll to the beach (and get a healthy smoothie on the way), nice healthy lunches and a quick shopping spree on the way home for a family siësta. Sounds nice? Well, there is more! After sunset, you can feel the vibe changing: people dress up, there is music in the air and all restaurants and little bars are buzzy and packed. Most hotels offer babysitting services, but if you don’t feel comfortable just take them with you and opt for an early dinner. There are cabs everywhere, so take your stroller with you and your kid(s) may fall asleep so you can enjoy that second glass of wine… I love the fact that Miami offers this great mix: it is trendy and relaxed at the very same time. Looking for some R&R? Make sure to visit the Everglades and Florida Keys. Beautiful beaches, cute little villages and coconuts galore. Do have lunch or dinner at Louie’s Backyard! Downtown Miami is worth a visit as well; the various neighborhoods each offer their own history and vibe, the cuisine is yummy and attending a basketball- or hockeygame is definitely a must. Bienvenido a Miami!

Alladin’s world is awaiting you- all it takes is a 4-hour flight from Amsterdam…
Magical Morocco has been a popular summer destination for years, and its King Cities (Marrakech, Fez, Meknes and Rabat) are very much worth a visit. However, during winter you should head to Agadir, Morocco’s most important coastal city. With over 300 sunny days per year, you can pretty much assume you will spend many days at the beach! Should you long fors ome action after a few days of leisure: no problem. Plan a visit to the new medina and hunt the market for treasures, experience a magical sunset from the old Kashba or take a boattrip from the marina.
If you go up north, to Taghazout, you can take surfing lessons with your kid(s), and if you are longing for a good hike, go to Souss Massa, a beautiful National Park. So many choices!
Morocco’s magical oriental vibe, the gorgeous sandy beach-which happens to be named one of the most beautiful bays in the world-, and its friendly people: need I say more? Just go!
