Contributing Editor, Felicia, shares her top 3 of stylish kid-friendly hotels in Piedmont and her favorite things to do in the region.
Italy is a hugely popular destination when it comes to family holidays and the reasons are quite obvious: amazing food, extremely kid friendly, great weather and wines to everyone’s liking. Well known regions like Tuscany and the beautiful lakes have been attracting families for hundreds of years, but there’s another gem that should not be overlooked: the Piedmont area.
Perfect for family holidays, and there are many stylish kid-friendly hotels and hideaways to choose from. We have selected three of our favorite stylish kid-friendly hotels in Piedmont to help you plan your next getaway!
If you are looking for a tiny bit of paradise, this is it. High up on a hill, overlooking the impeccably manicured vineyards with breathtaking views of the hills of Langa and Roero, this little relais will offer you everything you could ever want or need during your holidays. The hotel boasts ten beautiful and comfortable rooms, a wonderful restaurant, tastings in their own winery and a superb pool to cool off after yet another glorious day.
You can choose to stay in the main villa or in a small charming building amidst the vineyards, which is just a stone throw away – imagine the walk back after another wonderful dinner… Good to know: the superb restaurant with dishes to die for is located just next to the main villa: perfectly reachable for your baby monitor! Villa Tiboldi is ideally situated to explore the entire region; you just have to decide where to go first…
Yes, you are right: strictly speaking this is not IN Piedmont, as the hotel is located in Finale Ligure, Liguria. So we are cheating a bit…. But once you have been here, you will get why (plus, Liguria is so close to Piedmont you can easily include a visit during your road trip!).This wonderful hotel is a great example of the ‘less is more’ principle – simple interior, comfortable basic rooms and a modest entrance.
However, the simplicity is accompanied by about the best service we have encountered in years. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate you and make you feel right at home: extremely friendly, helpful and present. The kids are greeted like family members and we felt like meeting old friends again.
The breakfast is fresh, healthy and just what you need; the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner as well and serves wonderful dishes. The hotel offers both family rooms ánd adjoining rooms so the kids can be right next door. And the very best part? The hotel is situated right at the boulevard, so the beach is about ten steps away from your room… We’ll be back!
Some places have it all: stylish, family friendly, fabulous food ánd reasonable rates. Montebi is one of those rare gems. Situated close to Milan, in the middle of nature and between two ancient villages, Montebi offers three apartments and two perfectly styled and comfortable safari tents. On clear days you can see the sea, which is only a 25 minutes drive away. But there is also a fabulous salt water pool awaiting you right on the estate if you prefer to stay ‘at home’.
A bakery is within walking distance and owner Simone Ambrosin cooks fabulous meals every night, using homegrown vegetables and wild herbs. As he used to own two (award winning) restaurants in Amsterdam, he truly is a magician in the kitchen. The kids will love the playground on site, the pool and the family’s wonderful kids to play with. Montebi is a place you will keep returning to, and it perfectly combines TRVLBEES’ core values: style, family friendly and a touch of green. Vediamo pronto!
Visit as many wineries as you can! Options galore, it just depends on your own taste. It’s best to do some ‘homework’ before you actually travel to this region, so you can choose the vineyards you want to go to and make reservations. However, should you be in lack of time (aren’t we all?) your hotel can certainly help you with that. Don’t forget to make bookings at their restaurants too!
Explore the numerous cute and ancient villages and cities around- each having its own charm and history. Our favourite? La Morra. This petite village offers many great restaurants, wineshops and breathtaking views of the surrounding wineries.
Make the effort to drive to the coast; it is so worth it! Small places like Finale Ligure, Alassio, Noli or the area around Genova are still rather old school Italian beaches, meaning great simple food, playgrounds right on the beach and a great, family friendly vibe.
Should you visit the region during fall, the white truffle festival in (truffle capital) Alba is a must. The entire city smells like the white gold, there are bonfires on every square and countless Italian families having endless lunches all across town.
